Nifty Payroll Update for 2020 PAYE Change

It’s Time To Quit Nifty Payroll

This process is so much easier in PayslipMaker, and so many other things too. And as time goes by I’m forgetting how I did things in Nifty as my head is full of PayslipMaker code now. I cannot continue supporting Nifty Payroll.

This is the last time I am providing this type of support for Nifty Payroll. Please understand. It has been six years since I started requesting Nifty users to migrate to PayslipMaker in 2014.

If you don’t want to migrate to PayslipMaker, please find another payroll software from another supplier. Avoid the risks of using unsupported software. Even the huge Microsoft stops supporting their old software after some years, it is just the nature of software to keep moving forward.

Do These Two Steps First (BEFORE UPDATING Nifty Payroll)

Step 1 – Your Data File Location

Find the location of your data file because you will need to reconnect to it.

1. Open your Nifty Payroll

2. On the Navigator (the first screen) click on the the small button next to where you see “DATA FILE:” near the bottom of the screen.

3. Copy the “Path To Data File” – Write it down or save it in a document. You will need this to reconnect to you data file after updating.

Step 2 – Your NSSF Rates

1. On the Navigator click on “Admin” tab

2. Click on “Rate Tables” button

3. Click on “Table List” button

4. Write down all the NSSF lines (there are 4 or more) with the PeriodFrom and PeriodTo. This might change after the update and you’ll need to correct back to how it was before.

Steps After Downloading NiftyPayroll.zip

Please follow these steps carefully.

1. Make sure Nifty Payroll is closed

2. Find the downloaded zip file (it should be in your Downloads folder. If you can’t find it, download again and choose where to download it)

3. Unzip the file by right clicking on the zip file and choose “Extract All …”

– Select the destination to extract files as C:\Nifty\ – you can type this in the destination field or click Browse and select “Local Disk (C:)” and then select the “Nifty” folder

– Click Yes to replace the old NiftyPayroll.mdb

4. Open Nifty Payroll the way you normally do

5. Reconnect to your data file (FYI, this confusing step is eliminated in PayslipMaker)

– Click Find Data File and navigate to “Local Disk (C:)” and then the “Nifty” folder

– The file to connect to is your data file which has the name format NPyourorg.mdb, where yourorg is an abbreviation of your organization name.

– Click to Link Now. Ignore the error message about Excel. You should get a Success message when connected.

6. Open April Payroll and see if the PAYE calculation has changed compared to March.

– Also check that Personal Relief is 2,400.

7. Check if your NSSF is OK (FYI, This problem is fixed in PayslipMaker)

– The NSSF periods might be different in this update from what you have been using because the periods of new NSSF and old NSSF are different for different users.
